I had the?privilege?of meeting Jamie Odgers, the Peace Starts youth ambassador, at the launch of the campaign on the international day of peace . Peace Starts is an?initiative?that is also close to my heart and I'm thrilled to share Jamie's story, with a bit of a twist. This young man is a ?South African Junior National Rower and?Triple Gold?Medalist?at the 2012 South African Junior Championships has a pledge for peace as he shares his project me story.

The Pledge:

On the back of my rowing success and selection for the SA Junior Squad I was selected as Youth Ambassador for Peace Starts and I would appreciate the support in giving back to the community.

My Pledge for Peace:
Riding for a Purpose

As Youth Ambassador for Peace Starts, my pledge for peace is going to be riding the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge on the 18th November 2012 in aid of the Door of Hope Children?s Mission.

Door of Hope helps save the lives of abandoned babies. They take care of them until a ?Forever Family? can be found for them.

I?m asking for you to please support me by making a donation to this worthy cause. They have 60 babies that they currently care for and all the money raised from this event will be going towards buying Nan formula and Nappies.

Peace Starts is an organisation promoting the International Day of Peace in South Africa that takes place annually on the 21st of September, and is affiliated to Peace One Day (UK). I was honoured to have been appointed their Youth Ambassador at its media launch on the 21st of September this year of their Pledge for Peace Campaign. For more information on Peace Starts and the Pledge for Peace Campaign, go to PEACE STARTS or watch the YouTube video.

Please support my pledge by making a donation, big or small; it all adds up

Jamie tells his project me story:?

What is your definition of happiness?
Happiness is the feeling I get when I put 100% effort into a dedicated, loving cause every day of my life.

If you could have everyone say one thing to themselves every day, what would it be?
Challenge yourself to be even better than you think you can be.

We all have that moment when we need someone to believe in us. Who is that person for you and why?
My family has always been the foundation of my success, and I look to them to gain belief in myself, and I look to them for support.

What quality do you believe we can never be taught because it is our birth right?
We all have our own, specific calling in life, and we must strive to find our own definition of success, and to fulfil that dream. The freedom to dream.

Describe the moment when you realised that you could achieve anything?
There hasn?t really been one specific moment that I started believing in myself ? it has been an ongoing journey full of succeeding in small goals every day of my life leading me to my next challenge.

How do you deal with the fears that could potentially hold you back?
I think about the potential feeling of fulfilling my dream, and how proud of myself I will be if I became the person who I want to be, and then my fears become irrelevant.

What have you always dreamed of being or doing and have you reached that dream?
I have always dreamed of going to the Olympics and taking South Africa to the pinnacle of World Rowing. I also dream of getting a top quality tertiary education and become a successful businessman. I also dream of being an influential figure in my own community, and making a difference.

When life gets in the way, what do you always remind yourself of?
I remind myself of how far I have?traveled?and how much I have accomplished so far in my short life, and I realise how proud of myself I truly am, and I also think about how proud my family is of me, and how supportive of me they are.

We all have something unique to offer the world, what is yours?
I have perseverance and a strong determination to succeed, no matter what the odds are against me.

What do you believe we have lost sight of in the world as a whole?
I believe we have lost the ability to interact with each other peacefully, and only through projects like Peace Starts can we regain this peace in the world once more.
