I remember the day I gave Greggie this song. Okay, I remember the energy of the day and mostly wanting to rub in his face that he had been so moved by a country song. We were both single and something was going on with both of us when it came to understanding the lessons that go with love.
Today, the song still has the same words, but I hadn't imagined then that it would be humming through my head while my best friend, my Greggie, sat next to his dad's coffin and said good bye to the man who was his friend, mentor and greatest fan.
I haven't had many words over the last few days and weeks, but Greggie seems to think I'm getting it just right. That's my lesson to myself at a time when I watch my best friend deal with his loss. I don't think any of us think we are getting it right at a time like this. I know I keep wanting to do more or say more. See Greggie more, feed him more, make him laugh more. And when I sat so far away from him in the church and felt as though I should have been an arm's length away or when only the family stood around the hearse ... I kept reminding myself of this song.
"Did you say it? Did you mean it?"
I know Greggie feels 'satisfied' at this time when he starts a new journey with his dad and I know I felt satisfied too. He said his 'I love you' ...
I know I have said my 'I love you' to my best friend on more than one?occasion. I know we all say 'I love you' to the same person on many occasions, but there is this one time ... we never know when it is going to be ... that it is said with more love and sincerity than every before and that time leaves you eternally feeling 'satisfied'.
Greggie, for your strength, love and?commitment as a son, brother and friend ... I love you!
*Satisfied*
If you love somebody
You better let it out
Don't hold it back
While you're trying to figure it out
Don't be timid
Don't be afraid to hurt
Run toward the flame
Run toward the fire
Hold on for all your worth
Cause the only real pain a heart can ever know
Is the sorrow of regret
When you don't let your feelings show
[Chorus]
So did you say it
Did you mean it
Did you lay it on the line
Did you make it count
Did you look 'em in the eye
Did they feel it
Did you say it in time
Did you say it out loud
'cause if you did hun
Then you lived some
That feeling inside
That's called satisfied
Busy people walking by
Can't help but worry some
With so many things to do
So little love gets done
Empty hearts everywhere
Drowning but dying of thirst
If you want love
It's not that tough
Start by giving it first
It's so easy to give
Baby can't you see
Just close your eyes open your heart
And do what comes naturally
[Chorus]
Well did you say it
Did you mean it
Did you lay it on the line
Did you make it count
Did you look 'em in the eye
Did they feel it
Did you say it in time
Did you say it out loud
'cause if you did hun
Then you lived some
That feeling inside
That's called satisfied
[Bridge]
Horses are built to run
The sun is meant to shine above
Flowers are made to bloom
And then there's us
We were born to love
Satisfied by Jewel (A country singer ...)
Thanks my Jo...with all the love in the world. Hugs
